Menachem Ehrental was only 2 years old when he was first diagnosed with leukemia. The oldest child of Chaim and Miri Ehrental, Menachem was a fighter right from the start. 

The Ehrentals supported their son through medical crisis after medical crisis while being there for the rest of the family and keeping everyone strong. But, at the age of 15, Menachem announced that he could no longer continue to live such a painful existence. 

He wanted to stop all treatment and die with dignity. Just six days after his proclamation, he passed away.

The Ehrentals were stunned by the super fast progression. For 13 years, Menachem was (generally) in good spirits, had a strong desire to live, and fought his illness with all his might. As soon as he felt like he couldn’t continue emotionally, his body gave way and allowed his soul to depart.

They realized that there was a gaping hole in society: physical and emotional support for children with cancer and their families- because as long as everyone is happy, distracted from their grim realities, and determined to keep living, children with cancer have a much greater chance of recovering.
